PMA 2008 Report
Giving photo enthusiasts the freedom to take more digital pictures and shoot more video, SanDisk Corporation increased both capacities and speeds in its SanDisk Ultra II flash memory line with the introduction of 32- and 16-gigabyte (GB) SDHC cards and an 8GB SDHC Plus flash memory card. The announcement was made at the photo industry’s PMA 2008 International Convention in Las Vegas. Ideal for today’s camcorders and point-and-shoot digital cameras that can record both video and still images, the cards offer faster read and write speeds of 15 megabytes per second2 (15MB/sec), up from previous speeds of 10MB/sec read and 9MB/sec write in the SanDisk Ultra II line.

SanDisk Corporation introduced an 8-gigabyte (GB) SanDisk Ultra II SD High Capacity (SDHC) memory card to meet the growing demand for more photo and video storage. The new cards can store over 4,000 high-resolution pictures or up to 15 hours of MPEG 4 video. The announcement was made at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The SanDisk Ultra II SDHC memory card features write speeds of 9 megabytes (MB) per second and read speeds of 10MB/sec. The cards are targeted at digital photography enthusiasts with 5 megapixel or higher resolution cameras or videographers with camcorders that require significantly faster flash storage cards.

Sony Europe’s Recor-ding Media & Energy division announced the company’s entrance to the CompactFlash memory card market. The first product line-up, is designed to handle the speed and performance requirements of digital SLR cameras and is available with up to 4GB of storage capacity for the most demanding user. “High end digital camera enthusiasts, from consumers to professional photographers, have a huge and growing demand for storage capacity,” said Renaud Isnard from Sony Europe’s Network Media division. “With the addition of CompactFlash cards to its product range Sony widens the choice for users of D-SLR cameras, such as the new Sony α100 model, that are looking for fast and reliable recording memory.
